Palestin: Dua maut, 60 lagi ditahan tentera Israel

HARAKAHDAILY | .

- HARAKAHDAILY 7/7/2014

Dismissal of charges against Palestinian professor welcomed

Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) | .

The decision by US prosecutors to dismiss all charges against Sami Al-Arian after a decade-long campaign to convict the former university professor vindicates his claims of innocence and raises serious questions about the American justice system's treatment of Muslims engaged in activities that oppose US policies in the Middle East.

Dr Al-Arian was indicted under the terms of the controversial Patriot Act drafted in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States for being a leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and being complicit in the murder of civilians. After a lengthy trial in which he was acquitted of the most serious charges Al-Arian remained incarcerated for three years awaiting retrial for minor offences during which he was periodically stopped from having contact with his family and obstructed in his attempts to perform his religious obligations.

Faced with the possibility of a retrial and driven by the desire to be reunited with his family, Al-Arian accepted a plea bargain in which he accepted guilt for a minor offence with the promise that prosecutors would not apply the maximum penalty and seek his deportation. However, despite the plea bargain the witch hunt against Al-Arian continued.

Firstly in 2006 a Florida judge imprisoned Al-Arian for the maximum term of 57 months prompting the professor to go on a 62-day hunger strike. Shortly afterwards he was subpoenaed by a Virginia Court to testify in a separate case in violation of a verbal agreement reached with prosecutors during his plea bargain that he would be exempt from future testimony. Dr Al-Arian refused and was indicted for contempt of court. Since then the case has been in limbo with Dr Al-Arian subject to house arrest

The dismissal of the case against Professor Al-Arian marks the end of a grinding ordeal for himself, his family and supporters. From the outset it has been obvious that Al-Arian was the victim of a Zionist-led media campaign to blackball him and the policy think tank he had founded, the World and Islam Studies Enterprise (WISE).

It is abundantly clear that Dr Al-Arian was targeted simply because his work challenged the neo-con and Zionist narrative of the Middle East dominant in the US. His prosecution was a calculated attempt to destroy the think tank in its infancy and deter others from trying to replicate it.

In view of the fact that Dr Al-Arian has been cleared of all outstanding charges and he has served time for offences that US courts could not successfully prosecute, IHRC calls on the US government to also lift its threat of deportation. Dr Al-Arian has lived in the US since 1975 and all his five children are US citizens.

IHRC chair Massoud Shadjareh said: "Dr. Al-Arian's case is just one of the many travesties of justice created by discriminatory and targeted legislation. We celebrate his release but his individual trauma is replicated many times over across the USA. There needs to be systematic international condmenation of the increasingly two-tiered justice system in the USA."

The Zionist Apartheid Pariah reacts when being told so

Harakahdaily | .

Though this may be a bit belated nevertheless it has to be looked into given the growing Zionising of ideas, thoughts and narratives in the world today.

At the end of April when the Middle East “peace” talks stalled yet once again, the US secretary of state, John Kerry made a statement to some people in private that the Zionist regime risked becoming an “apartheid state”.

He was reported to have said that “If there’s no two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict soon, Israel risks becoming an apartheid state”.

And as expected, the reaction from the Zionists both within the Zionist entity and without was explosive.

Kerry received a sort of ultimatum – he had no choice but to apologize or something like that. So immediately after he issued a statement that he was a “staunch supporter of Israel” and that he did not “believe that Israel was an apartheid state or intended to become one”. So powerful is the Zionist lobby and its influence over America that Kerry’s office scrambled to assure the entity that was not what he meant declaring that “the secretary does not believe and did not state publicly or privately that Israel is an apartheid state, and there’s an important difference there. Israel is obviously a vibrant democracy with equal rights for all of its citizens” said a spokeswoman of the State department.

Not only did they relent immediately by retracting the “apartheid” label they even went further to spew the nonsense that the Zionist entity was “a vibrant democracy with equal rights for all of its citizens”.

It should be noted that Israel is and has always been an apartheid state right from the time of its illegal establishment since it came about through the collusion of the big powers especially Britain by forcibly driving away the original inhabitants, the Palestinians, who until today are refugees not only in many parts of the world but also within the Zionist state where their status is lower than the “Jews”. Incidentally the establishment of Israel was to provide for a “Jewish” state which if this is not racist then what is?

Apartheid according to the UN General Assembly that adopted the 1973 International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid defined it as “inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination of one racial group…over another racial group…and systematically oppressing them”. In 2002, Article 7 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court further defined apartheid as “encompassing inhumane acts such as torture, murder, forcible transfer, imprisonment or persecution of an identifiable group on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious or other grounds, committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any racial group or groups committed with the intention of maintaining that regime”.

Now if the Zionist state of Israel does not fit the above description then what would? Right from the illegal establishment of the regime, Israel has been a rabid apartheid state. Scores of notable personalities even among the Jewish intellectual community have used the term to describe the entity. In 2007, UN special rapporteur for Palestine, John Dugard stated that elements of the Israeli occupation constituted forms of colonialism and of apartheid. In 2009, South Africa’s Human Sciences Research Council published a report that among others stated, “Israel exercises control …with a purpose of maintaining a system of domination by Jews over Palestinians…constitutes a breach of the prohibition of apartheid”. Another UN rapporteur, Richard Falk in 2011 said, “the continued pattern of settlement expansion in occupied East Jerusalem combined with the forcible eviction of long-residing Palestinians is creating an intolerable situation…(and) can only be described…as a form of ethnic cleansing”.

While Kerry felt that Zionist Israel was going to be apartheid (before retracting it), we know that from day one this illegal entity has been an apartheid entity. Actually it continues to dominate because of its apartheid policies – use of force, eviction of Palestinians from their homes and lands, building newer and newer settlements on land they had stolen as if there was no tomorrow, building a wall of separation – which has been termed appropriately the “apartheid wall” – to confine the occupied Palestinians in cantonments where movement is highly restricted and a host of other actions only apartheid regimes are capable of doing.

Someone said that if Israel was ‘a vibrant democracy’ why were they then trying to silence Kerry and anyone who criticized it? For the record, AIPAC – among the most extreme, xenophobic Zionist organizations in America – has declared that the Palestinian people should be removed from the face of this earth.

Let’s accept the fact that the Zionist entity is nothing but a rabid apartheid entitiy.

Farewell most beloved murabbi

Harakahdaily | .

Today we were saddened on being informed of the death of Dr Mofeed El Mokhallalati, Dean Medical Faculty, Islamic University of Gaza and Health Minister.

Dr Mofeed was a Palestinian from Gaza.

I will need to write down the interactions that we have had with this great man, mainly as a reminder to myself. We knew him since we were students in Dublin in the 1980s. He was doing his FRCS and we were young medical students. He was in Dublin with his family.

He would teach us surgery whenever we asked him. But more importantly he helped us with our Islam and our activities.
He was from the Ikhwan.

He was the one who organized the Arab students who were many in Dublin and resulted in many returning to Islam and attending the activities in the Dublin Islamic Centre, South Circular Road mosque which was a converted church that the community had bought over. They went back to their countries with zeal and enthusiasm to spread the message of Islam.

He would come to pray fajr in the mosque even though he did not live near and in the coldest of winter.
I found praying fajr in the mosque to be a criteria of people who achieved much in this world and I believe in the next and also people I believed were sincere and worked for Allah and not for themselves.

His wife would cook breakfast for the Imam of the Dublin Islamic Society, as the imam was a bachelor and deliver it to the imam every morning. So humble he was.

He would sometimes join our Malaysian usrahs and contribute his knowledge. Occasionally he would deliver the Friday khutbahs.

His wife, sister Sahar, helped take care of our second born daughter Iman when we were attending college.
We graduated and he too graduated but continued training in Ireland and we went our separate ways.
Then came the heinous and murderous attack on Gaza by Israel end of 2009.

Together with the MERCY Malaysia team and the relief team from Qatar (including Dr Azhar Ex Emergency Physician HUKM) we went to Gaza in Jan 2010 to do what little we could.
And fate made us meet Dr Mofeed.

He was now dean of Medicine Islamic University of Gaza.(IUG).

He greeted us as long lost friends and remembered us instantaneously. There were a few more of his ex students from Dublin who had also come at the same time as us. He showed us the new molecular lab that had been reduced to rubble courtesy of the Israeli terrorist air force just a few months after it had been set up. He lovingly showed us the rest of the faculty he had set up.He set us up a meeting with the President and the senior management of IUG.

This resulted in students from Gaza coming to Malaysia. One has since gone back with a PhD and serves in the IUG.

While In Gaza he invited us to dinner in his house but we had to leave Gaza in a hurry after the Israelis started bombarding again,so that was a dinner missed.
.
He confided in us that the Irish embassy had offered to evacuate him and family out of Gaza as the Irish ambassador in Tel Aviv was worried about his safety. He had an Irish passport due to the long years he was in Ireland. But he had refused to leave his beloved Gaza and the medical faculty that he had set up.

The next time we met he was now in Kuala Lumpur attending the FIMA meeting 2012 and was soon going to be the next Health Minister of Gaza.

We made sure he met Iman and he was so happy to see her now married and reminded her that he had carried her around as a baby.

We invited him for dinner but again we were not to have a meal together.

Dato Dr Musa had kidnapped him to have dinner with a WHO official.

During the summer holidays in Gaza in 2013, we conducted a joint clinical research on the safety of rubber glove produced in Malaysia that needed a group of 75 white skin individuals. We did it with IUG.He got the students of IUG to be involved. He became one of the volunteers in the research in order to remove safety doubts among the participants.

He was always first to send us Ramadan and Eid greetings.

We kept in touch and he continued to invite us to visit him in Gaza for the dinner that we missed.

It is now not to be.

Allah bless this man who knew his priorities, was a great example of a striving Muslim and was true to his promise. He showed examples to us by deeds and humility and not words.

We ask Allah to reward him and make us meet Jannatul firdaus .
